This is another of Ms. Atwood's cautionary stories about the bleak future awaiting us given her view of current trends. The purpose of "Oryx and Crake" is to defame genetic engineering, bigotry, greed and elitism, and a certain form of gullible piety.
It may be a personality weakness, but I prefer narratives that are a bit less didactic. I prefer things that are a little more ambiguous. This is not the author for that, I know.
